If there’s three things I love in this world, it’s definitely smooth jazz, American diners and amazing attention to details in a videogame. Thankfully, Other Places (a YouTube series that takes an atmospheric look at environments in videogames) has managed to combine the three in with a brief but detailed look at the opening scene in Batman Arkham Knight.
Say what you will about this game but this opening scene is jam packed with some very incredible details that, unfortunately, will more than likely go unnoticed. This video provides an excellent look at the aesthetics of Pauli’s Diner and its customers, it almost feels like an Ed Hopper painting come to life.
“A poet could write volumes about diners, because they’re so beautiful. They’re brightly lit, with chrome and booths and Naugahyde and great waitresses.” – David Lynch
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off for a milkshake.
